The traditional points
for cupping to rid the entire body of dead blood cells when performed in the
same cupping session are;
- the two points adjacent to the seventh vertebra (heart position in
acupuncture terms) on the back, approximately two inches from the spine.
- the tail of the spine (I tak buat)
- the two
inner positions of the feet on the ankle
- And the top back side of the head normally where balding first
starts and the hair moves out from all directions. (tak buat sbb
kena cukur bahagian kepala)
When the above points are
cupped in one session it is sufficient to clean the entire body. For
specific complaints and local injury, cupping can be applied most anywhere that
it is possible to place a cup and obtain a good seal.
Just as the moon affects
the tide of the ocean, it affects the human body. Therefore, cupping should be
performed on odd days of the lunar calendar when the forces of the moons pull
assist in removing the dead blood cells. It should also be done in the second half of the lunar month.
The 17th, 19th, and 21st days are the best for cupping. While less
favorable, cupping can also be performed on the 23rd and 25th days of
the lunar month.
During the first days of
the lunar month, i.e. from the first day until of the fifteenth day, blood-flow
and blood re-newal is stimulated.
In the middle of the
lunar days (12-13-14-15), the strong pull of the moon continues to stimulate
the blood, and through cupping the body would loose much of its young blood
cells which is counter-productive to the aim of the cupping treatment, which is
to clean the body of old tissue and stimulate blood renewal.
The tide of the seas due
to the lunar pull begins to weaken from day 17 to 27 of the lunar calendar and
the blood-flow slows down – during this time the cupping therapist gets the
best access to the old tissue in the blood that causes hardening, pain and
illness, for example in the shoulder blades area or other areas of the back
such as the neck or lower back prone to hardening of the tissue and muscle
spasms.
Preparing for
Hijama
Abstain from all sexual behavior at least 48 hours
before and after a cupping session. Staying away from sodas and other poison
foods. The morning of the hijama session do not eat or drink anything other
than a little water or one cup of non acidic herbal tea. Shower the morning of
your session making the intention of a full ablution for the dedication of
performing this important sunnah. Pray two raka asking Allah for a healing and
forgiveness.
Walking after
Hijama
Sleeping or resting after a cupping session is highly
discouraged as the possibility of blood clotting is the only real danger in
having cupping performed. That danger is virtually eliminated if you walk a
short 20 to 30 minutes after a session.
Basic
Technique
Make a few small superficial scarifications/shallow
cut (about 0,.1 mm in depth) just to open the skin barrier of the
epidermis. Specific care is taken not to include any anatomical structure
(nerve or a superficial vein). Scarifications must be always superficial not
deep, sequential not simultaneous, few not many, vertical not transverse,
longitudinal not pin-point, short (about 2 mm) not long, and gently slow not
rapidly done.
